New Frontiers in Science – Munich Summer Academy 2005
The olympic area (“Olympiapark”) was designed for the Summer Olympics of 1972 by the architects Günter Behnisch and partners. Construction began in 1968 on the former Oberwiesenfeld. The hallmark of the area is the Plexiglas roof covering the stadium, the roof covers an area of 75,000 square metres. The supports for the roof are 190 feet long masts, supported through steel wires. The roof of the stadium is on a preservation list.
A beautiful view of the olympic area, Munich and Alps can be achieved from the 941′ tall Olympia Tower.
